AI, Our Body, Our Soul, Never Be Our Enemy

The emergence of AI with smart machine learning has helped humans in various sectors and fields to achieve higher efficiency, smarter-decision making, and sustainable solution providing. The development of AI, assisted by big data as a source and machine learning as a method, has also been quietly but quickly changing the foundation of the institution of our world. This changing is not only from an economic structure perspective but also from a social and legal point of view. Following these, two forces have been dragging the world into two extremes. One is to “favor” AI to human society’s revolution (such as from capitalism to equalities); the other is to “resist/doubt” AI for the sake of delate political-economic-legal system (such as what we have been experiencing currently with the globalism-nationalism battle).

AI is not merely a technology, but also a revolutionary being, so that humans cannot avoid challenges in spite of opportunities. The challenges evolve from AI as an unknown algorithm to smart machine learning, from an auto-delivered pattern of big data to a sophisticated framework beyond the human brain’s capacity. The challenges are diverse but fundamentally derived from humanity’s dark side in power desire, where AI is likely to be used as an instrument for the wrong side. To this, it predicts that a disaster, due to human’s greedy desire and weakness in managing various powers, could occur. AI may replace HI (human intelligence), and the smart machine will replace the workforce (which has led to a soaring uneasiness to politicians and societies because of human’s uncompetitive skills and competence from education). Facing the competition or collaboration between AI and HI, it is of certainty that we cannot wait until the last minute when AI can automatically define a new institution for their interests and intelligence without regard to humanity’s advancement. Therefore, the key to all the formats of the AI-HI relationship has to define. A new corresponding legal institution has to be delivered ASAP.

Therefore, a list of jobs is upon to do and discuss urgently amongst practitioners, legal professionals, academics, and politicians.

  1. How to define and legalize an equation of identity and data as a new version of property and currency? What is a model to substitute the old version of property and currency with the new one?

  2. How to define and legitimate the process of machine learning and the legal status of AI in decision making and job replacement?

  3. How to set an ethical and moral code to control the relationship between HI and AI?

  4. How many degrees of freedom should be given to the organizations, scientists, and entrepreneurs in data production and data exchanges (the paradox of data privacy and data publication)?

In other words, what is the new structure of data ownership and data sharing-ship, which is the core question of sustainable development. How to legalize an integration of human-artificial-intelligence?

To answer these questions,

  • In practice: talents/experts will need to transform into generalists with general specific competence and make an effort in the same direction (please refer to my SDG 9 article)

  • In education: education needs to urgently switch to be adaptive to the present and, most importantly, leading the future. Educational institutions have to educate more generalists rather than specialists, with the support of AI. (please refer to my article of future of work)

Only after applying the above, we shall be able to step into the real era of AI being our body, our soul, rather than our enemy, in each of our social-economic spheres.
