Priva: Shaping Sustainable Cities

This case was designed and jointly composed in collaboration between Erasmus China Business Center dr. Ying ZHANG, Erasmus Case Development Center, Priva – the partner company of Erasmus China Business Center – as well as RSM's SDG team on the theme of United Nations' SDG9.

Synopsis

In 2020 Priva was a global leading high-tech company that provided equipment, software, and management strategies for climate control, energy-saving, and optimal re-use of water in horticulture, building automation, and indoor farming. It was a second-generation family business, whose current CEO Meiny Prins renewed the Priva brand to highlight innovation and sustainability and internalized them in every nook and cranny of the company. Prins further expanded Priva’s business globally, establishing joint ventures and whole-owned subsidiaries as well as collaborating with partners around the world. Given its expertise and experience, Priva was well placed to assist densely populated world regions in tackling their energy, food, and water issues with its technological solutions. This led to the ‘Sustainable Urban Delta’ initiative, which Priva had focused on since 2014. After years of efforts in driving sustainable changes and building a circular economy, Priva saw the need to expand its global network and bring together more stakeholders to jointly create better future societies, especially in megacities where problems caused by urbanization were on the rise. How could Priva achieve that? What potential did Priva have that can be further tapped into?
